Having recently taken my first long-haul Amtrak voyage over Labor Day weekend, I have become mildly obsessed with the mode of travel. I find myself having a few open browser windows on my work desktop peering on routes where Amy and I may get lost on the rails and find ourselves someplace interesting. Oh, Amtrak, how I love thee!

It's definitely my favorie way to travel. We take the Coast Starlight (down the West Coast) pretty frequently around here, but my favorite trip so far was from Chicago to New York (I don't remember the name) - just the mix of people on that trip was entertainment for the whole two days.

The only route that goes the whole way without a connection is the Lake Shore Limited, which I've considered taking to visit our friends near Utica. Actually, the station at Rome, NY is only about seven miles from their house, but the LSL flies through that platform.
