This season's "Finale grande"

Jul 01, 2004 22:15

It was a dignified end of the season that is now past. Sunday was the Bartoli recital at the Musikverein. She was again fantastic. I was, as many others, disappointed that she sang just 2 Salieri and 2 Mozart arias. The evening started with a "study for 23 solo-strings" by R. Strauss, followed by the 2 Salieri arias - intermission - 2 Mozart arias ( Read more... )

Not bad either! All in all I went to the opera 28 times plus 2 operettas. 10 concerts at the Musikverein, 2 at the Konzerthaus and 1 in the Haydnsaal.
I've just completed the first page of the list, which contains just 8 operas, the Wagner operas. I'll continue tomorrow.

Have you seen "Goya" yet? Domingo will sing it this July. I wonder whether I shall see it?
BTW, I'm about to join the "Wiener Opernfreunde". As member I'll be able to buy 8 tickets a year ahead, plus meetings with stars etc.

Of course I added them. They're among the highlights, my twin, :-) ! I've almost completed my opera list. Still the concert list to do.
I've decided not to see Goya, as I have so much to learn. And with a little bit of luck I'll be able to see Domingo in Parsifal next June.
Plans for this summer?

I've only heard Mariana Lipovsek in Brahms's Alt-Rhapsodie, but she was so imperial, I love her. Kathleen Ferrier's version is gorgeous (although it's a 1947 mono recording), but I find Lipovsek better.

I'll be glad if I see four or five operas next season. My plans for this summer: Patricia Petibon (Purcell, Le Roux, Charpentier, Rameau) on August 2 and Verdi's Requiem on August 17 in the beautiful abbey church of Lessay.
