hehe You're right. Wouldn't surprise me. I'd just really like to meet JK and ask her "Why the twins?"

And why Colin Creevey? That was just mean. She was trying to hurt me with that one.

She probably doesn't need to, although I can see her wanting the certificate. Maybe after all that happens, being alive, having Ron and Harry, and having her family back are enough?

But probably not ;)

i feel like she would want something. maybe not right away, but that desire to excel would kick in and she'd want the diploma. i mean, how bored would she be after a few months in a voldemort-free, school-free world? plenty bored.

What, you mean her true love with Ron wouldn't be enough?

Maybe she went to Muggle school?

i always maintain that wizards graduate from hogwarts and go to the unseen university in ankh-morpork on discworld. it's only logical.

Hermione, Ron, and Harry, at the very least, receive honorary degrees so as not to have to go back to school for what would undoubtedly be a rather mundane and useless year. They've already learned far more than they ever could have learned if they'd stayed in school another year, and those with degree-bestowing power realize that.

I know this because JKR is still - even after having written 7 books based in wizardry - not very good at Occlumency. So there.

I found myself wanting to know what their careers were. Yes, they all live happily ever after with spouses & kids, blah blah blah, but what are they doing all day long, 19 years later?

Shara Fares and I have just been discussing precisely that point. Harry and Ron wanted to be Aurors, but is that really a viable career option in a post-Voldy world? And I assumed Hermione would at least be Headmistress by now, if not Minister for Magic.

After so much focus on academics & achievement & Hermione's braininess, apparently "growing up" really just means getting hitched, having kids, and learning how to drive a car. Wait, it's only the male characters who drive the cars. Ok, I'm getting ranty. But I really wanted a bit more from that "19 years later" epilogue, you know?

I agree. Did it seem like this book could have done with more time and more editing? Did we really need so many Snape memories, given that we already knew he had a crush on Lily? Why were the remaining horcruxes so relatively easy to destroy after the locket? What happened to Griphook?

And the epilogue? Lame.

I concur. Why is Neville, the one who kind of sucks at school (alright, except herbology), the only one who is a professor? I refuse to believe that being married to Ron and having children called Rose and Hugo (not Fred?) are enough for Hermione. Maybe she started a magical university where they offer courses in the humanities. Because the wizarding world seems to need that, especially in these post-Voldy times.
