I have NO idea what it's called. It's a chunky/Aran weight, possibly acrylic. I must have bought it over 30 years ago, quite possibly - I made a little cable-panel-front waistcoat in it, which I still have but got too fat for, so haven't worn recently. But I was looking to see if I'd got any chunky yarn around while the main Knitronomicon is still in storage (in a friend's garage) and found three small left-over balls. There wasn't quite enough, but I had the other DK yarn in similar colours in the same box, so I used that for the ribbing (and I can't even remember buying that, so goodness only knows when/where/why I got it!).
I've got the 2nd cashmere glove, 3 socks, a lace shawl and a blanket on the needles right now or I'd hop in and see if I could make a cosy now. LOL thanks for the inspiration.
Uncanny. I started looking for the piece of paper with the details of the fake cable pattern half an hour ago, came to the computer because I thought it was next to it (it was) ... and spotted your comment.
G'wan, you know you wanna make one. It only takes a couple of hours... *g*
Not really ... but EQUALLY UNCANNILY, I was just discussing yesterday with another online knitting friend the feasibility of turning my Dalek Hat pattern into a teacosy... (Basically, knit the vertical 'ribbing' single thickness, then divide for spout/handle at centre front and centre back through the horizontal stripes.)

You temptress you! I have to look at my stash and see what jumps out. Actually -- I really need a tea cosy for my BIG teapot. Got a favorite pattern?
