I found it hard to read the blurb on the back of the blue one. A bright colour would probably be preferrable. Or a brighter letter colour. I really like the 'Opt Out' title, I think it's much better than 12 steps. Not sure about the cover though - it looks, well, depressing. All about the recession and nothing about opting out of it, if you see what I mean. I'd have thought a more positive image would be better.

Image from random google search, if you like it I could knock together an original piece. Maybe basing it on a pound coin as the compass base? I'll wait on your feed back.
The covers are a little 1980's school text book in clour and perhaps a little gloomy for the positive nature of what you are trying to sell (this from the guy who had a purple cover for his book-lol). They are however very good themetically (no such word - there is now). I'd suggest focussing in on one of the graphs and putting an up surge in green and all the down surge up until that point in red. As you know in business, red=bad, green=good. The retitle I'm not sure about but I'd probably dodge the word Simple and replace it, though not with something that suggests untested like 'revolutionary'. I think, if you have to change the title 'painless' or 'straightforward' would be better than simple - can you tell I used a thesaurus :-).
Though I must admit How to Opt out of recession works for me. How your company can Opt out of Recession. What do I know...probably more than I'm letting on and a lot less than I'm making out (oooh that's going in the second book).

I think the title's ok but also "12 steps to recession recovery" might work just as well.

How do you go about creating a shiny fun cover for an economics book!

The compas image does not belong to me. Just another example.

This is really difficult.
Where did you pick up the compass image?
