The new law is daft. As you note, you've just broken the law, should I report you?! out of curiosity, what should you have done? Left them to grow or is there a magic mushroom disposal service that you ring (now there's a job to have...)

After looking liberty caps up on google images I do believe I myself have been a very bad girl.

Maybe we can get a cell next to each other :)

The old law made a lot more sense - is was illegal only to prepare them - dry them, turn them into things, or distil out the psychoactive ingredients. The way the police used to see it was that if anyone was daft or desparate enough to chew their way through a couple of hundred raw mushrooms that (from what I've been told) taste like old boots, then good luck to them.

However, I can recall a girl in my class at school bringing in a suspect-looking concoction in a thermos flask which was made from liberties from the field behind her house, hot water and bovril. When we declined to join her in it, she downed it while holding her nose and spent the next hour giggling through double maths. Whether it was the mushrooms or entirely placebic, I'll never know.

As I remember it, there was always an awful lot more talking about eating them than actually doing so. Whether it was fear of misidentification or the fact that they tend to grow around cow-pats that put people off more, I'll never know!
