Both of the Davis Square T-Stop escalators were non-functional on the Holland Street side today. This doesn't matter much to me as I always take the stairs. The cause, however, was quite evident and... special:

Moral of the story: respect the escalators. They can eat loose items. Hopefully, they won't eat you. Don't sit on the escalator in a hoodie, where it can eat the cord that's dangling out and strangle you. Don't let your floppy shoes, or your shoe laces, or your overly-long pants or skirt get caught in the escalator.

Oh, and if someone is caught, hit the big panic button. If you're nice, you can even give the other people on a escalator a warning that it's about to stop.

Since we have kids goof off on the escalators at work *all the time*, I have too much practice yelling at them for their own good. I think sometimes, they think they're like an amusement ride.

I grew up calling them thongs, but it now sounding normal to me to hear them called flip-flops here.
