I Made History this Morning!

Nov 04, 2008 08:44

Woke up at 4:45am...was at my polling place by 5:20 and was the first in line. It was nice. The stars were out and I was able to really be in the moment. At 5:50 people started lining up behind me...by 6:45 I'd finished coloring in all the little rectangles on my ballot and had my "I Voted!" sticker in hand.

Yay!!!!

So, I'm hosting an online chat ( Read more... )

Good for you! It took me a minute to walk to the poll, 2 minutes to sign in and enter the one voting booth, draw the curtain, and flip my levers for history. There has been a steady stream of people in and out all morning (I can see Change from my house!) and a group of older people had entered while I was in the booth. I live in a very small town (as you know, Kim) and didn't anticipate any kind of line longer than two or three people. The polling place was in the volunteer fire department, and the ladies auxiliary had a little bake sale going. It was all very sweet and homey -- my first small-town election. I know people do vote in droves around here, so I'm not reading my "in and out" experience as lack of interest -- just lack of population. :). I've never had to wait on a line longer than 20 minutes to vote (in Atlanta -- not even NYC!), and cannot imagine how horrible it would be to wait for HOURS. I have great respect for you and everyone who have and will commit to brave those lines to vote for Change. Let's pull this thing ( ... )

I voted early (the last day) and had to stand in line for 1 1/2 hrs. The good thing was we got to sit down while waiting. They said 35% in Shelby Co. voted early. I think TN will go to the "Mavrick" but oh well, he didn't get my vote.
So, how do I get on line with you?
I love you,
Mom

You have to sign up for AIM (that's AOL Instant Messenger)...it's free. You'll have to go here to sign up.

Then you either need to email me your AIM name or figure out how to make me your friend (my AIM name is afallonmoon) and then I will invite you to the chat.

Otherwise...just call me on my home phone. :D

Being hopped up on the pills and all, I'm expecting tonight's returns viewing to be much more exciting than usual.
