Luka parked his Jeep in a visitor’s spot, turned the car off and got out. Humming softly to himself he headed over to where his little sisters were playing on the playground. Luka smiled at the twin’s teacher and she smiled back coming over to talk to him.
“Good afternoon Mrs. Andrews, did Aylen and Kaya have a good day?” Luka asked. Mrs. Andrews was a fairly new teacher, her first year teaching had been the year they had moved to this town five years ago. She was twenty-seven, recently married and quite pretty. The twins loved her.
“Good afternoon Luka. The twins had a good day, I put a note in their backpacks for your parents, please make sure they see it.”
“Anything they should be concerned about?” Luka questioned with a frown.
“Just a progress report and a little note on classroom relationships.”
“Classroom relationships?”
Mrs. Andrews turned to look out over the playground. She pointed to where Aylen and Kaya were playing with a little boy. “That is Devin and he is the twin’s boyfriend.”
Luka’s eyes widened. “Boyfriend? At five?”
“It’s quite common actually… though usually two girls will fight over a boy. In this case, Aylen and Kaya seem quite content in sharing Devin’s time and attention.”
“Huh…” Luka thought it was weird, thinking of the twins having a boyfriend already… but he had met Embry when he was four so maybe it wasn’t so weird. Of course, he and Embry hadn’t been romantically involved until he was sixteen. Luka gave a shrug. “Hey! AK! Time to go!” He called.
Aylen and Kaya looked up, waving at Luka. They turned back to Devin, both giving him a kiss on the cheek before jumping up and running to get their backpacks which were tossed along the fence. “Ready!” They both exclaimed running up to him.
“Say bye to Mrs. Andrews,” Luka told them.
“Bye Mrs. Andrews!” Both twins called, waving to their teacher. Luka walked the twins to his Jeep, helping them into their booster seats before climbing behind the wheel.
“So, good day AK?”
“Great! I painted a picture!” Aylen exclaimed.
“And I wrote a story about the picture!” Kaya added.
“Did Devin like the picture and story?” Luka asked, glancing in the rearview mirror to see their reactions. All he got was the twins glancing at each other.
“He thought it was for him.”
“It wasn’t?”
“No, the picture is for Papa,” Aylen said.
“And my story is for Daddy,” Kaya stated.
Luka put on a pout for them. “And I get left out?”
“Silly! You get us!” Both twins chorused. Luka laughed.
“Well, if that’s the deal then how can I refuse?” He turned his Jeep on and carefully pulled out of his parking spot.
