Clint writes a "wake up" note to himself while under mind control anonymous January 6 2013, 04:32:13 UTC

During the time when he was under Loki's control, Clint keeps finding these notes addressed to himself. They're strange notes, written frantically as though he knew he didn't have much time to write them. They don't make much sense either, sine they keep begging that he wake up. To wake up before Loki-

Inspired by this creepy-pasta:

"It has been reported that some victims of torture, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not wake up. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren’t being tortured. The only way that they realized they needed to wake up was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to wake up. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and please wake up."

Excellent fic. I loved the way it ending with Clint disbelieving what comes after.

If the mundane every-day life is an illusion, wouldn't you question suddenly being a superhero? Like, "This can't be my life."

Parrish was just supposed to be in that first scene, and then he kept coming back up. I didn't really plan him. He just happened.

I'm glad you liked it. The prompt kind of grabbed me.

So heartbreaking and marvelously well done, with the repetition in the dream and Clint trying to deny it... His fear and uncertainty were so palpable!

I'm glad the repetition worked. I was trying to balance between not being too repetitive and still being noticeable.

I'm so glad to hear it was creepy! "Is this creepy?" feels about as hard to gauge as "Is this funny?" Maybe more.

OP here, sorry I took so long to reply. Been busy reading this over and over.

This is just amazing. The build up, Clint's reactions to the sheer terror of the situation, the way everything that happens in his dream-world ties into the real world.

It's creepy and sad and beautiful and you should be fucking proud. You're awesome. :)

No worries, OP. I often take a while to reply to things, too.

I'm glad you liked it and that it was creepy. I find it hard to measure the creep factor of stuff I've written myself, so I'm glad that it apparently worked out.

This prompt was awesome and kicked me out of a writing block (at least long enough to write it. hahaha. My wips continue to be stuck.) so thank you for prompting it. It felt different to write, and I enjoyed it a lot!

The tension was so well built in this. I was increasingly worried every time Parrish showed up, and then I had my worst fears confirmed. Parrish! We hardly knew ye.
