Do You Believe That Asexuality Exists?

I was reading an article in the San Francisco Chronicle today about asexuality. There is a growing movement of people who believe that they are asexual. They say that they have no sexual desire. However, they do have platonic relationships that involve affection and love. They just don't feel any need to have sex.

I'm OK with it - I just hope they don't want to legalize asexual marriage. That cheapens marriage for all us sexual people.

It clearly goes against traditional same and opposite sex marriage...and will destroy the sexual American family!

It's currently believed that Walt Whitman was asexual. Of course, there are those who say he was gay, too.

At any rate, yes asexuality does exist. I can't imagine that the mixers would be much fun, though. On the other hand, you get a lot more work done that way.

Asexuality exists. Sometimes it's a choice while other times it's could be due to medication or other environmental factors, while some people simply don't have any sexual/romantic desires one way or the other.

If it is a choice, would that still be asexuality?
Wouldn't that be just abstinence?

Is asexuality something you are born with? Or is asexuality a choice? Many people take the label of asexual for themselves, but for different reasons. Some asexuals see it as a choice and others see it as something that they are born with. However, it could also be that they are just anti-sexual and in reality they are just repressing their sexual desires. It all comes down to how each person defines asexual.

Abstinence is choosing not to have sex. With asexuality you are saying that you have no sexual desire. Some asexuals have sex, but they do so just to please their partners. They do not have sex because of sexual desire.

I'm certain some people would believe abstinence is a form of asexuality. :P

I just hope they'd been to the doctor because low sex drive can indicate a medical problem.

What I find strange is that David Jay said that he is 80% attracted to women and 20% attracted to men. He's dated both women and men. When asked if he did it with himself, he said he has tried it in the past by himself. Jay said it was alright but he didn't seem to like it.
