Considering that you live in Egypt, the melancholy is completely justified. You are seeing a family member gain something for which you may never have access to in your lifetime should you continue to live in that country. You can still be happy for him, yet at the same time be reminded of how your own life is not as good as you would like.
If gay people are to have any rights in Egypt, they're going to have to fight for them, which is what happened in the years preceding and after the 1969 Stonewall Riots in the United States.
Thank you so much for your comment, also for understanding.
Egypt is way far behind the USA and almost 2 centuries backwards. People here can't elect their own president nor their preventatives in the parliament. Human rights are of the worst and the police holds absolute power over everything in the country. It is like an Army that have a country not the normal reverse. Fighting for gay rights in USA came in the right time after a long prosperous democracy and the fight isn't even through yet. Israel is the best comparison to Egypt, being in the same region, but with its diverse people and their democratic system also with the advanced feminist movements all these worked for the Rabin's law to grant LGBT full rights.
Every one in Egypt is LGBT enemy these days, even important gay men act as homophobic so that they keep their positions... I don't know if any hope lies in the near future!
Sorry for the long comment... and thank you so much for taking the time to write.
