I barely caught up with you at the tail end of the convention. Sorry about that dollar fiasco. Going on hiatus doesn't sound like a bad idea if you are having difficulty infusing your art with heart. I find myself looking for a place to go, not to get away from. Hopefuly you can find a place that feels right and allows you to keep crushing. Keep it going.
The problem with art as a job is that it's tricky to find the right mix of creative satisfaction, and financial success. The easiest way to be fiscally successful is obviously to sell out... in exchange for a bigger paycheck, you sell your creative dedication to someone elses dream... while the most personally satisfying things are not always likely to translate directly in to monetary success. Very few people can reach that level were there's an acceptable medium of spiritual and finacial satisfaction, but you're a lot closer to that platau than most (definately close than I am, anyways... I think art as a career has probably past me by without even looking my way), and once you find your center again, you've got the talent and drive to reach it. The only other friend from FAHQ I know that's managed to get close (I obviously can't speak for him, but from where I sit he seems to already be there) is Mal, who seems to be able to turn everything he touches to gold, and do whatever he wants

It can get heady sometimes. You'll learn how to pace yourself so it doesn't seem so nuts all the time. Don't be like my friend who's a big ball of stress. Years of doing freelance for licence have turned him into a candidate for a heart attack. If you can afford to: turn away a project or two. If you hate a project you're working on it's going to show in the work.
word. i feel like i post way too much emo angsty shit on this LJ lately. honestly, i have fun with what i'm doing, even the licensed stuff-- but i get into a "mood" and go nutty about it on LJ.

i'm not all that far from where i was-- just a little overwhelmed by 1 or 2 things. once it's all done with, i'm sure it'll make me stronger.
