About half of my flist is reenactors. I try to be careful not to alienate the half of my flist that isn't with terms and stuff they don't get.

Plus as a teacher, I likes teaching!

Glad you enjoyed.

Oh, it's alright. Full of scandal and silliness. I love being able to actually choose my classes. I have some amazing teachers. How are your classes? Beaten them into line yet? ;)

Pretty...... though I think you're gonna have to baste your cutout of linen onto another piece of fabric to work on it in a square frame. Most embroidery that's shaped other than a square or rectangle doesn't usually get cut out until the needlework's been done, to make stress on the fabric's shape a little less.

Okay, totally off subject, but you & Taranos need to see this. I just bought one for my bathroom: http://shop.webomator.com/cgi-bin/cpshop_posters.cgi?i=retro_clocks/bws01.135858285

I've been cheating a little and using a round embroidery hoop while I've been playing with the design, just to have something.

Oooo! Pretty stuff! Thanks for the link. My project is a caul not a coif but that is documentation I will totally keep on file.

I'd be happy to explain. Actually, amusingly enough when I went to a few good online links to see who had the best written description of the differences, I found a reference to blackworking on cauls being found in Queen Elizabeth's Wardrobe U'locked. i must find a copy of this book.

As for your question, a coif is more like a tightly fitted bonnet (often tied under the chin) and a caul is more of an Elizabethan hair net. More detailed descriptions here: http://www.sempstress.org/patterns/drafting/hats.shtml

I'm not as big with tying things under my chin, so I opted to try a caul. Both are usually worn under other hats, which means a flat cap will be among my next projects. So to help answer your question, I found my reference and we both learned something new. Good deal.
