As some of you have heard by now, my stepfather passed away unexpectedly Friday morning. Dennis and my mom married when I was very young after my mom and biological father divorced, so for most of my life that I can actually remember, he was there as my dad. Well, we at least managed to get an explanation on why the mortgage company didn't want to sign before the 15th. Short version - they can't. Longer version - while they have foreclosed on the property and they can (and obviously have) legally put it on the market, the title had not finished vesting to them, and so they cannot sign it over to anyone ( Read more... )

My Lady and I signed all that nice closing paperwork yesterday so that we could close on our new house, get the keys, and move in. The paperwork was sent to the title company to get the required signatures from the mortgage company that is selling it (they foreclosed on the previous owner during their attempt to Short Sell the house to us).
