It looks to me like you and the kid misunderstood each other. He asked for CD-RWs, and you thought he meant a drive for putting data onto CD-RWs. When you asked "you mean like a drive to burn them," it looks like he took that to be a descriptive detail for what he was looking for--the hardware device that would be used in conjunction with CD-RWs--and he assumed you knew what he was talking about

I took him to the blank media (CD-Rs) when I realized they were what he wanted, so that wasn't much of a problem. At least not unless he held grudges. As for the math, there's no easy way to tell him how much music will fit; that's the best way I knew how to explain it.
