Creep-tastic behavior

Aug 11, 2012 20:04

I probably shouldn't be posting since I'm really emotional right now, but I have a problem and it's escalating and I need some advice.

So there's this creepy asshole who has been following me around on the internet for just over a year now, badgering me to finish a WIP. They've posted on my LJ, my A03, the Inception Kink meme and ff.net on a regular ( Read more... )

Just saw this post on the yuletide comm's flist... What a creeper.

Have you reported these comments to the AO3 abuse team? They could look into blocking that anon's IP, maybe.

I haven't brought it to any of the sites, LJ, AO3, or ff.net. I suppose that is my next step. I've been a little embarrassed, to be honest, because I hate to get admin involved in a spat... but now this is going on for over a year and the messages are more and more often, maybe I should.

Edit: Gah. I'm all over the place tonight. Forgot to say, thanks for the advice. :)

Well, what the fuck? I don't know about AO3 and FF, but are you able to report harassment to them? I believe you can here on LJ. Can you log the person's ISP and see if anything can be done from there? I know you don't wish to interact with him/her, but perhaps a comment-reply of "Your rude comments are actually making me not want to finish the fic EVER. Please refrain from pressuring me about it, or it will never get done." I don't know; I wish I could find the jack ass and smite him/her for you. People like that really need a vicious beat-down, in my opinion.

Oh yeah, I've replied to them several times asking for them to stop. One time was on the kink_meme and they started attacking me from there until the Mod had to step in and freeze the thread.

I'll see what I can do about the IP. I have little hope for ff.net, but maybe if I give it to A03, I can see what they can do?

Edit: And thanks for the smite comment. :) At this point, I'm upset enough to wish it myself.

Yikes! I'm so sorry that's been happening, that really does not sound like fun.

Have you been reporting them on all those sites? That may at least stop them temporarily. Alternatively, since they use the same name all the time, set a rule in your mailbox that anything with that name gets sent straight to the trash so you at least don't have to see it?

That's pretty much all I got. *hug* Hope it gets sorted out soon.

I should have been reporting from the start, honestly. At first it was just a little obnoxious, but as the months wore on it turned to creepy... and now I'm officially freaked. I'm definitely going to report from now on.

I do like your idea about the mail filter, though. Out of sight and out of mind?

Yeah, exactly. If you don't engage them, maybe they'll stop. (I wouldn't tell them you're doing this, though; then they might change their name!)

Oh please. I've gotten *counts* 4 PMs (not emails, but actual private messages) from fanfiction.net this week ALONE asking about Another Brother. That sort of stuff, I'm used to.

This other person is waaaaaay different. Their messages are abusive and they've stalked me across multiple accounts every time I post a new story.

You're fine, bb. Really.

This is sounding less about your fanfiction and more about exerting control of your emotions.  You don't need or deserve this.  Any steps that can be taken to report this psycho stalker and remove their commentary need to be done immediately.  If this person is still doing this after a year, they obviously have no intention of stopping.  If nothing is done, your stress level is going to shoot through the roof to the point that you could make yourself sick.  Please don't let that happen if you can avoid it.  Talk to every admin/mod you can and have it stopped through whatever measures necessary.

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of. I'm used to getting flack about my WIPs. (People get really passionate about fanfic, and I can't blame them. I do too.) But this feels very controlling, and I'm afraid it won't stop even when I do finish that WiP.

I'm going to start emailing admins tomorrow when I'm less... emotional. I should have been from the start, but I was just hoping they'd get tired of it and stop.
