This can't be as easy as it is to please a ten year old.
All Carly had to do to get in good with Arianna was make me feel like a jackass without any effort involved. She did it well, Arianna pretty much worships her. And if she doesn't completely now, she will later. And unless Carly does something really bad out of absolutely nowhere, she's pretty much set.

That's a little strange for her. Carly prefers storming in over being polite. Back in the day, she had no trouble with barging into the bathroom when I was in the shower. When she and Mom moved back into town, I gave her a key immediately to keep her from going through a window or something.
I'd imagine she wants this to look decent for the boyfriend, but knocking just isn't a very Carly thing to do when she comes here.

I dropped the copy of TIME I'd been reading onto the coffee table, got to me feet, and made my way over to do the door to greet them. When I unlocked and opened it, I immediately smiled at Carly and the boyfriend

Sam wouldn't have been very comfortable with us barging into my sister's. He's probably uncomfortable enough with just being here. I'm not dumb enough to make it worse by acting casual. He thinks this is supposed to be one of those big 'meet the family' things because he doesn't understand how Grace is.
If we were doing this with my parents, it would be a huge deal and I'd tell him to be terrified. With Grace, its not like that. The reason she wants to meet Sam in the first place is because I can't shut up about him whenever I talk to her. She's happy for me. And since she's already happy, she already approves.
Its really much easier than he's making it.

So far, no death. I think I'm safe. "Yeah." I smiled to her. "Nice to meet you." She does look like she's really nice. Okay, so far this isn't as huge as I thought it would be. I like that.
I shook hands with her and followed Carly inside, then looked around at the house. Nice. I saw a picture with her and a little kid, and smiled at that. That's the cousin, right?
"You knock now, Carly?"
"You don't like it when I barge in.
"That never stopped you before."
"I wanted to try something new."
This will probably be the most happy I ever see Carly around a member of her family. And it kind of amuses the hell out of me that it's sort of like me and Arianna. Older one leaves the house, younger one stays behind and sees the older one whenever she can.
