magnetic rose: memories of kyle mesnard

Jan 28, 2006 10:48

Hi everyone,

I made a private post with some memories of our friend Kyle Mesnard (1981-2006), and skamdar said,

Maybe we should all get together somehow sometime and tell each other all of our memories of Kyle as a tribute. That's kind of what we did for my friend... and it proved to be a good way of coping with the pain.

I said in return,

...or, ( Read more... )

i'll start. i wrote this the other day.

kyle, i do miss you. damn.

kyle, how should i honor your memory?

kyle, you were a good friend.

one day, kyle, you fell asleep in my room and woke up confused. you opened my closet, looked for a towel i think, and then looked at dwchang and me. what are you doing in my room? i think he said. he didn't know where he was.

i don't know where he is now, and somehow, i wish i did.

Most of my memories of Kyle are JAC related. I remember all the crazy things he and Daniel would do for the break tapes, like that "Making of Fox's Escaflowne" video, the Overfiend costume, and some of those hilarious music videos they made. :)

But the memory of him which sticks out the most is Kyle, Russell, and Daniel standing in Loomis outside of 141 or 151 during JAC and either Russell or Daniel made a crack about how Kyle look stoned and then they all laughed. After that Russell joked that Kyle was stupid for laughing at himself, but really I think that was the essence of Kyle - someone could find humor in almost anything, even himself.

There were some rituals of living in Townsend 5N that were unforgettable. One of those rituals was eating dinner in the evenings in the large dining hall.

In those days, I'd routinely spew out insane theories on how to achieve world domination, and Kyle would listen intently. It was as if he felt he could play that pivotal role as an aerospace engineer and fill in the details where us ECE types would have holes in our plans. The discussions of world domination were common and pleasurable, even if perhaps they only happened to take away attention from the bland flavor of dining hall beef stroganoff.

Kyle, it's ok man. Just because you've relocated, ... it doesn't change a thing. You can still play the intelligence role from up there with your new vantage point in heaven. Same plans, man. Same plans.

-PT

p.s. I'm sure the beef stroganoff tastes better where you are now.

i didn't know kyle that well. i lived on the same floor as him for 3 year, went on a week long roadtrip/ski trip with him, i'd say hi to him everyday, shoot the shit with him on walks to classes, lunches and dinners, and probably played some counterstrike/starcraft with him; but never really got to know him. by this, i mean that i never really learned what he cared about, what his life story was, what made him tick, etc.

my best memories of him are from the vail ski-trip/road-trip we went on spring break 2002. i remember spending a few days just cruising around vail with kyle, todd and dirk -- it was beautiful. i remember him being pretty ballsy and trying some jumps even with some pretty good bails. i remember that there was tension between different people on various parts of the roadtrip but kyle was always laid back and cool about things. i could tell that he was able to dodge or sidestep these small issues that other people argued about. i particularly remember walking through safeway one day and talking to him, i believe ( ... )

Kyle was a great roommate. He was very easygoing on lots of issues, including dealing with whatever quirks I had for 2 years. There were times where we would just laugh in the room about the stupidest things. He always kept an excellent stash of Mountain Dew, which is probably where I got my immunity to caffeine, so I thank him for that. I can now have caffeine before going to bed no problem because of him. Those were the times ( ... )

I'm trying to put together a tribute video for him...Not one of those sappy ass wake things, but one HE would like. I have no idea how or where to start, so any help is appreciated.
Thank you.
