Ah... being a Hard Stick sucks. I feel for you, I'm a Hard Stick and sounds like your mom is as well.
If you haven't figured it out Hard Stick is a nurses term for having trouble finding a vein. Each time they needed to take my blood, I've had it taken in various ways. First attempt was with a needle jabbed into my arm... that failed horrendously after the first two tries so they finally stuck a butterfly on my wrist. I think my worst one was when they brought me into another room completely and said they were going to get my blood. I was PREPARED for a needle to the arm and several repeated attempts. Suddenly they strapped my arm down to the table, much to my surprise as she holds up a finger shaped blade... yeah. Jabbed it into my index finger and proceeded to drain my finger of blood. Worst, blood drawing, experience EVER.
Alrighty, hope things work out well for you. Be well.
D: That sounds horrible! Wow. I can't imagine that. I would be like 'Nope, not doing it, no way!'
For me they usually don't have any trouble at all, I've never had trouble with my right arm for having blood drawn (donating or otherwise) but I've only had blood taken from my left arm twice and this time was the first I've been a 'Hard Stick' and now I feel really bad for anyone who is. My mom is definitely a hard stick though, she has seriously had times she tried to donate and she couldn't because they had twisted the needle around in her arm so much. D:
Yeah... it was more of my surprise. If I remember correctly the (one sided) conversation went like this.
*Is looking around the room arm on the table ready for the "needle" suddenly arm is strapped down* "Huh?" *Sees Blade* "Uh... what're you doing with that?" *Sees Nurse grab hand* "What're you doing with that?" *Raises needles* "Oh! $#!^!" *Blade is Jabbed down, surprised shout, brother laughing hysterically in the background*
