Hey, all you criminals out there...if you prefer to spend as little time in jail as possible all you need to do is break into someone's home and assault them. You will be out on the streets, able to do it again within 2 years. Now, if you decide to sell pot, that is a completely different story. You will go to jail forever for that

That's how I feel about sex offenders - if they are so dangerous that we need to alert whole communities when they move in, they need to register wherever they go, even AFTER they've paid their "debt to society", then why the hell do we let them out in the first place? Wouldn't it be easier to just stiffen the penalties and keep them in jail forever as opposed to throwing whole communities into panic when one of these losers get out and moves into one?

I totally agree. The fact of the matter is that study after study indicates that sex offenders are not able to be rehabilitated. Even castration doesn't work; they simply use other methods to commit the crime. Of course, there are people who get classified as sex offenders when they really are not, like 19 year-olds convicted of statutory rape for having sex with their 17 year-old girlfriend, but those are the exceptions.

I think one stat I heard was a 99% recidivism rate on pedophiles. I don't get why we let them out. :-/

It blows my mind that we keep letting repeat offenders of violent crime out of prison. And pot smokers see longer terms. Insane.
