Some Sanity Restoration

Dave is back home....they moved him out of the ICU yesterday afternoon, and he kept improving.  He was "tube free" by 11:30 last night (his IV had infiltrated, and they just decided not to put another one in.  He was awake for a lot of the night and ate a decent breakfast (he shunned his hospital food, and ate half of my breakfast burrito)....he ( Read more... )

Oh, babe, I am so glad to hear this.

And, yes, I can't think of anyone who I can think of who I would want around in an emergency as much as you. You are strong-willed, smart, and know just how to shut down people's BS.

Dave is a lucky guy. :-)

I am so glad he's home and improving so well - but so sorry you both had to go through a nightmare like that. It sounds as though you were amazing through it all. I hope you both can get some rest now (and an end to interesting times).

I'm very happy that Dave is better. Believe me, nothing says "I love you" more than yelling at doctors and caregivers when someone you love is in the hospital. I'm serious--Mary did that for me when I was ill, and I really appreciated it, just as I'm certain Dave did. Everyone needs an advocate in the hospital, and Dave was lucky you were there.

I never yelled at anyone - just questioned heavily, filled in gaps, and made connections that they didn't.

But what's funny (and by funny, I had to leave the room because I was so tired that I was getting overly offended and emotional) is that Dave thinks I and the medical staff overreacted. He's since dialed that back a bit (probably because several medical professionals told him that I'd saved his life), but it still cuts none the less.

You advocated for him and didn't take what they said at face value, which saved his life. You didn't let them intimidate you, regardless of how tired you were. I'm sure you didn't yell, but you fought for him and made sure that they didn't do anything to him that would have made it worse or, God forbid, killed him. I hope that he realizes that. I do.

Oh dear one. I just got home this evening and I wanted to check to see how you were doing and saw this about Dave. My thoughts and prayers are with the both of you.
