Just saw that new special on VH1 on gay culture. Everywhere I turn these days, the talking heads and pundits are disecting and debating "the summer of the gays" or "the gay noughties" or some other completely ludicrous label for what they see as an emerging trend in pop culture ( Read more... )

I do love these icon-hunting expeditions. You encounter also sorts of amusing little tidbits. It was this or Paul Lynde as my third and final icon. While the kitsch factor is about comparable, and Lynde is indiputably the greater talent (Bye, Bye Birdie anyone? I watched the Turner Classics tribute last night, complete with the documentary filmed by his daughter, Cecilia. I bawled like a baby and I'm not afraid to admit it. Go Nets!!! Yay! The Nets beat the Spurs tonight late in the fourth quarter. So kick ass!
