i've been held up (and pinned down and pistolwhipped) too, so i know how it goes. you handled it well (never fight someone who has a gun, sorry, just my opinion) and it is not trivial. its just not. i am sorry other person seems to think so.
it took me a long time to get over being wary of walking at night, of people behind me, etc. go gentle on yourself
oh yah - a long time ago now, in a... a adifferent life. um, in 1996, i guess? or was it 1995. my gf of the time was asst manager of an arthouse movie theater (the once lovely Park theater in Menlo Park if you know it) and i went to pick her up after closing one night. the theater was closed and we were preparing to go home when 3 guys in masks came up from inside the theater and made us lie down and robbed the theater.
anyway.
i'm sorry to hear you've been mugged too, yes, the world is scarily, stupidly violent.
When A. told me his story, the first feeling I expressed to him was, Violation. Reading your story reminds me of a friend back in Boston who was raped by 3 men. IMHO, it seems as if we all have the intrinsic rights to own our own bodies, and anyone who violates that right deserves to have their rights taken away. Being pistol whipped, raped, robbed(being forced at gunpoint to do something; give money away), sexually molested, murdered, these are violations of your intrinsic right as an individual. You and A.(as is the other commenter I am sure) and my friend back east are all such sweet and peace loving creatures, it seems so wrong that you have been victimized like this. Argh!

poem makes sense now.
if you need to talk about it..i would be happy to talk with you...having been mugged on the street once with a knife..well..i got away..but it sucked.
and the whole '01 thing. Just because one is handling it well doens't mean there isn't stuff to handle.
