A chicken in every pot....

Rachel had named ALL our spare roosters 'Pot Pie', so took her at her word, and I dispatched one this morning. Think the next one will be called 'Chicken Tacos'---aren't I a barbarian?

I saw some Welsummers at the state fair last weekend. Beautiful! (And hopefully tasty!)

The one I killed was actually a huge Barred Rock. I'm keeping the Welsummer--he's very mellow, excellent protector, and he's just so damn pretty! :)

The only homegrown rooster I have ever had was one of those baby chicks that got dyed for Easter presents. He never changed coloras he grew, but remained blue his entire life. My aunt decided to keep him because he was the only one of the dozen chicks we kids got that lived. He was MEAN. When he shuffled off the motal coil (courtesy of Aunt Irene) she tried stewing him FOR DAYS, but finally made him into dog food. Hope "Pot Pie" tastes better.

GO AUNT IRENE! I hate mean roosters.....

I've learned the trick with roosters is to cap 'em before their hormones get too crazy. It actually changes their...er...TEXTURE. This one was very tender, thanks for asking ;)
