Sippy Cup Woes

I need help with transfering my daughter off the bottle and onto the sippy cup. She doesn't care for milk and she will only drink from a cup if the spill-proof thingy is off and the cup is dumping into her mouth. Then she gets ticked and throws it away from her. My son drank from a straw very early on so he used the straw cup until he got older ( Read more... )

First of all, that's a great picture. =)

And about the cups...I weaned Amy with the cheap-o spill "resistant" cups. You know, the plain old plastic ones with a lid that has a mouth piece with a slit in it. (The kind they sell at the Dollar Tree in 3 packs.) I tried taking the plastic thing out of the spill-proof sippies too, but then the milk pours out way too fast and chokes the poor kid, as I'm sure you've noticed. The simplier cups control the liquid so it doesn't come out quite so quickly, but without plugging it up so they have to suck on it.(I think spill-proof sippies seem to be glorified bottles, anyway)

My daughter loves these cups; once she got the hang of them she weaned herself at 11 months because she prefered to drink a cup over a bottle.(But she has a fiercely independent streak...wonder where she gets that =)

Of course, with these they can still turn it upside down and shake it out, but hey, there's upsides and downsides to everything.

Oooh, I'll try those. I don't really care if it's messy, that's just the way it goes with kids!

PS: I love that picture of my daughter too. She was only a month old and she only made goofy faces.

Hey, so I looked in Baby Wise 2 and all it said was that you should wean from the bottle just like from the breast, one feeding at a time. It also said not to let baby "hold the bottle for extended periods of time." And I found these sippy cups that have a soft nipple, like an in between thing (Nuby brand). I am trying that with Trent and it is kinda like unwordable said, it comes out slow when he chews on it.

Anyway, let me know if you figure it out cause I am starting to stress that my milk will be gone and I will be stuck!!!
