Likes to pretend to be the leader? Based on your description of everyone else there isn't a field leader. Unless Derile does more than command from base. Kind of like a Gibbs/Denozzo relationship from NCIS. If that's the case I will take that kind of role.
I don't mind being cocky, but I am only cocky about things that I know I am good at or have fun doing. Keep that in mind.

Hmm... good point. Derile won't be heading up the mission and it does need a leader, so maybe I'll toss Pops into the mix as well. Ha, he can even be called pops.
Oh, and as to your character, well, it's not going to be you exactly. It's going to be a version of you. Sure, it will have some of your character traits, even your physical traits. Heck, I might even let Yeremy and Rion be brothers--that would be interesting. However, keep in mind, this is a character in a book and I am going to take liberties with him. He's going to do things you wouldn't do, say things you wouldn't say. I'm going to use you as a base to work from, but that's it. Of course, if you'd like to opt out because you think something that happens in the book might make you mad or offend you, well then let me know now so I can reconfigure the plot before it gets started.

Continue on. It's really hard to offend me. Melanie said you could use some of my previous comments for your book, if you want to. Have fun writing it.
just to let you knoww, you spelled Claire's name wrong, she is touchy about this for some reason, it is Claire, not Clair, without the E it is a boys name, with the E it is a girls name. I am ok with being the brute of the group, don't think I should die though, if anyone it should be Derile, he gets killed by the bad guys and now it is a revenge mission also, we get paid and get to kill the bad guys. Sounds like fun to me anyway

So there are those who have a death wish for their leader already. Does he use the pretense of revenge to accert himself as leader which he felt all along belonged to him? Just curious has the evil Joria deffected yet,if not does that mean Saenz is in trouble.(: Old Guy
It will be awhile in the book before Joria defects. Of course, I haven't really started outlining, so I'm not sure how it's all gonna go. As to who will die... someone is going to bite it, but I'm not sure who just yet.
Wow. I get to be a sorceress! Can Melandra also be witty and a bit sarcastic? Oh, and I do NOT want to die. Although that could make Yeremy rethink some of his positions... nah. I don't want to. You're going to have bring out some of Yeremy's finer qualities too, or it won't make sense that she's in love with him. He's not always cocky. He's very sweet and dependable, too.
You can be witty, but it has to be a nice kind of witty (much like you are now). No biting sarcasm for you. Your character is kinda going to be the soul of the group.
And I promise you this: I won't kill you if I don't have to. If the story demands it... I still love you as my sister in law :)
What about the "don't make her mad" part? Doesn't that warrant some sarcasm? Or is she more the silent boiling anger type? Why don't you want to make Melandra mad anyway?
I suppose if I must die, I will. I will never let you live it down though. Oh, and if I do die, let me come back somehow, a la Daniel Jackson. Would Yeremy and Melandra be married in the story or not?
You will be married, yes, and the reason nobody wants to make a sorcerous mad is fairly simple... she makes people blow up into itty bitty bits if she loses her temper. Your character will have a lot of patience though, so the blowing up will be minimal I think.
About this dying bit

Everyone knows that only the non-essential temporary support extras die off. If you are wanting a book that reaches out to everyone you can't kill off main charactors, unless you want to turn off the female population of readers that is. So either one or more of us needs to not be a main character or you need to add a none related one. Because I know I don't want any of my family DEAD and we all want to be main characters. :)
Re: About this dying bitbacaninhoSeptember 23 2009, 18:56:41 UTC
Yes, well, sometimes main characters do die, and sometimes that is what makes the story great. Look at Obiwan Kenobi or Kelsier from the Mistborn Trilogy. Without their deaths, the story just doesn't have the magic.
I will say this, if a main character does die, it will be a meaningful, honorable death, not me just being a punk to my characters as usual.
