Wow...this place really is something else. I've done a lot of observing since I arrived and took notes and tried not to flip my shit...this is a mangaka's dream come true.

And I haven't been cursed yet. Wonder how long my luck will last.

It's a downer that Saiko isn't here anymore, though. Will he get ahead of me at home? Will he want to move ( Read more... )

saikoooo, this is a fanboy, sup lady luck, surveying yon residents, kind of bummed

I'll give most anything a shot, at least once. Though I'd have to say I like adventure stories the best.

Any kind! That's the beauty of an adventure story, you can do almost anything with it. You can set it in the past, present, or future. It can be be set in an entirely different world, or it can be based on reality. You can even mix it with other genres to expand on what you can do!

What are you, a writer?

Just don't go writing nonsense romance novels. Those are the worst.

Yeah. I write manga.

Oh, trust me, I know. I don't think I'd be able to write a romance novel.

Same difference in the end, isn't it?

... good. I don't even know how they sell.

Not exactly.

Girls and Clow Reed eat them up, that's how.

Of the slasher variety, or the more psychological side?

Alchemical material is always fascinating. Some biology, taxonomy, and chemistry are interesting as well~.

P-Papillon.

Taxonomy? Really?

mottoaiokomete November 29 2008, 14:05:59 UTC
Of course. I used to collect butterflies. Reading on the genus and species of lower beings may certainly be enlightening.

Yeah, that's obvious.

True, true.

But say you were going to pick up a novel. What would you choose?

Hmm...personally I think it depends what kind of mood I'm in. Action and Adventure is great. Science Fiction is full of robots, aliens and all other kinds of strange and unusual beings that you can't go wrong with. Mostly anything that takes you away from the typical every day events that people go through. Who wants to read about things that actually happened to someone or could happen.

I won't touch biographies, romance or normal fiction. If it could happen to you next week, why read it? You should be living it.

Haruhi Suzumiya???

Yeah, I like being swept up in a world that only exists on the page- it's a fun escape from the mundane.

Though some 'normal fiction' has elements to it that makes it different- the supernatural, extreme weather...that kind of thing.

boredom_banned November 29 2008, 14:37:00 UTC
But the supernatural should go with Science Fiction...ghosts, aliens, that sort of thing.

What's special about extreme weather? Unless it's an asteroid barreling down on earth that is threatening to destroy anyone--eh...even that's not interesting unless there are aliens attached to the asteroid and threatening to control and destroy every human except one! That one they find is just a little different than normal humans and want to keep her around for research purposes. Not like weird research either, just to tell them what a boring place Earth really is and all...

I mean, a devastating earthquake or tsunami could happen next week...what's weird about that?

Sounds like a self-insert, Haruhi.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself well enough- what I meant was, I like the idea of putting normal, everyday people in extraordinary situations. You know what I'm saying? It doesn't necessarily have to be science-fiction.
