He certainly never wanted Nanako to be in the state she was in. Sweet little Nanako - young and trusting, too naive to royally fuck up a man's life. A little angel like that never deserved to be punished, but fucking Namatame had to see the game to the end. So Adachi had written the letter to Souji after seeing her on the Midnight Channel, knowing with conflicting feelings what was going to happen next. Sure, it was worth it to see Dojima run around like his hair was on fire - take that, fucker! - but when the car crashed, and when Nanako came out of the TV with all the strength and constitution of a drowning slug, and all those tubes and IV's and pinging machines ( ... )

Dojima was moaning in his sleep, tossing and turning. Adachi jerked his head up and wiped the sweat from his eyes. Once again, two thoughts inside his head were piping up with conflicting information. One told him to laugh, maybe even put the pillow over Dojima's face and see what would happen, because seeing Dojima-san suffer was just so much fun.For once, Adachi decided to listen to the other voice, the one that he feared had been nearly snuffed out after that Yamano woman had fallen into the television set. He listened to it for the first time in months, reaching out and grasping Dojima's hand in his. The feeling was alien, the palm huge and sweaty in his smaller hand, and he nearly recoiled from the naked intimacy of it. But when Dojima's breathing slowed and his body settled back into the hard hospital mattress, Adachi kept his hand there, his own pulse slowing ( ... )

-The references to The Stand - makes me wanna grab a copy and look at the page Adachi's reading. I haven't read it in years.
-How Dojima's dream changed.
-The use of the painting. I love how Dojima's dream state put Namatame and Adachi into it.
-The Izanami and Adachi relationship. And in general the Adachi characterization.
-Just the high quality of the writing in general. Great descriptions, great dialogue.
Excellent job, anon. I'm not the OP but I was really hoping this one would get filled.

Thank you for the very specific praise. I'm glad the painting reference wasn't a flop - the image just sort of came into my mind as something that walks the line between the erotic and the extremely strange and unnerving. When I read over the story again, it seemed kind of strange and out of place.
I'm really glad you liked it - this pairing isn't one of the more popular ones, but it seems to have a small (but extremely enthusiastic!) fanbase that I love being a part of. ^_^
Wow that was an essay.

The painting worked well - not sure if it was what you were going for, but I took Adachi's nakedness in it to represent truth. (BTW If you have a specific interest in Le dejeuner sur l'herbe you might be interested in reading L'OEuvre by Emile Zola, for which it was an inspiration; haven't read this in years either but remember enjoying it.)
I try and read all the Adachi stuff on here when I have time - thanks for writing this!

I'll have to check that book out ^_^
And I also prefer the Dark Tower - in fact, I've been working on a Persona/Dark Tower crossover fic for a while. Don't know if you've read Interlude 19 on here (couple of weeks back) but that was part of it. No Adachi, as most of it is a flashback that takes place in the 90's, but it does deal with the issue of one Chisato Dojima.
