Ten Years Ago

Maybe it's because I'm turning thirty this year, I don't know, but I've been thinking a lot lately about who I used to be at different times, and how I got here, and what I used to think my life would be like. It is funny how life kind of laughs at your plans, isn't it? I was dead-set against ever getting married. I expected to go for a PhD in bio. And here I am married and headed for nursing school, and I'm totally happy with it.

It seems like everyone we know is going to nursing school, I'm certain you'll do extremely well. It's nice to know you're happy, I wish we got to see you more.

Seriously, who knew that one crazy trip would lead to your life changing the way it did. Looking back, I'm really glad I went with you to it. I feel like I was there for the start of something truly amazing.

30 is just a number.

(Though I have been told it is the number that often corresponds with the body starting to actually age.)

But, most importantly, as you say, "Life doesn't give a damn about plans. Life just happens, and I'm better for it."

And now I'm going to cry. I just can't decide if it's because my body is already aging, or because it will very soon. Maybe I'll just go with it.
