LJ, I just can't quit you.  I know I shouldn't keep inactive accounts around, but I like coming back here and seeing the community we once had.  I see that several of my friends have the same difficulty letting go.

Last week I went into DC for the first time since February. This is what it looked like Thursday morning just before checking in for a dental appointment. I wish I'd taken photos in the Metro. Ridership is down 90% and it was the best Metro commute I think I've ever had, back and forth.

I learned today that Kate Bush's song "Running Up That Hill" is not about figuring out how to get God to swap places with you but about asking God to let you to swap places with another person so that you can each see things from the other's point of view. My reading totals were low this past year. I blame this on less public transit time this year in comparison to past years. The best books I read were What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours by Helen Oyeyemi, Nora Webster by Colm Toibin, and Get Into Trouble by Kelly Link, and there were many good ones too numerous to name in one sentence. My overall total is down, but I have read some longer books this year. Most of this reading is accomplished on the train, and Metro gave me more reading time this past year than ever before. Hild was the best book I read this year, followed closely by The Woman in White and The Unfortunates.
