With 70 lbs off of me, and Glucosamine/Controiton supplements I have gotten my knees back in good working order. I get aches and the occasional twinge so I wear an elastic compression brace at times, but overall I am back in good functioning condition knee wise.
I found out over the summer that gelatin (think jello or supplements) will be deposited in the joints and have a beneficial effect if there are cartilage issues. I cannot confirm the effect as I just started increasing my intake. The glucosamine/condroitin has helped me lots.
Good luck, it is worth it when you can end a run/exertion and realize there is no pain.
