[character]: Sergeant Delphine Angua von Überwald
[character history / background]: She's a relatively normal child considering her upbringing with the high-pedigree Baron and Baroness of Überwald, of which she prefers to distance herself as much as possible. Among her siblings have been Wolfgang, Andrei, and Elsa. Oh, and did we mention that she's a werewolf? Of course, this doesn't negate the normal comment in the least; it's not our fault that you're not from a land filled with dwarves, vampires, trolls, and seemingly dozens of Igors.
At any rate, back onto her family. We only know her family as they are after she has grown up and moved out, but she does mention them. Her mother and father provide an interesting background, from her mother who tries to exemplify the very epitome of prim and proper, to her father who, well, he played fair at least. And he&'ll occasionally wear clothing, for guests, even Change for some of the visitors. Her brother, on the other hand, plays perhaps the biggest role in her life, in that she struggles not to be like him over all her other relatives. He thinks werewolves so superior over everyone else, that he even killed his own sister, Elsa, and would have Andrei, if he hadn't run away. They were yennorks, which is a werewolf that cannot Change, and assumes mostly one form. Elsa human, and Andrei wolf.
Since leaving home, she has joined the watch, and quickly escalated to Seargant through loyalty, hard work, and the ability to bite a man in half, while at the same time showing enough restraint and intelligence not to do so. She has also been in a relationship with Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson, several times feeling that she should leave, and then continuing to be drawn back only to say 'not yet'. In the later books, this starts to dissolve, although it certainly doesn't say anything against this still happening in her mind.
[character abilities]: There are some perks to being a werewolf, such as incredible strength and a sense of smell that makes your other senses go stand aside feeling slightly ashamed of themselves. But even for a werewolf, or maybe especially for a werewolf, Angua is strong. She was always able to give her brother a good run for his money when they grew up, and that holds true when they are older as well.
[character personality]: While her brother is often said to look like he is constantly ready to jump and attack, she is constantly ready to jump and flee- when she's not around people or situations she's comfortable in, that is. This is not to say that she'll be off to one side cowering, of course, she's just ready to take leave in case someone starts to attack her. Or even worse, she starts to attack them, uncontrolled. Which is something that she is constantly on the look-out for in herself. She knows her family, and knows what they are capable of, and what they've done to perfectly innocent people. She doesn't want to become like them, which explains why she's a vegetarian for most of the month.
She is easy enough to get along with, though. She has a pattern of, when someone is saying something about werewolves and/or the Watch that is incorrect, going impassive; both in tone and in facial expressions. She can make fun of people with the best of them and can be bitingly* sarcastic. In the past she had a bad habit of judging people far too quickly, which hasn't completely disappeared. Another thing that hasn't disappeared is her firm reminder to everyone that forgets that a werewolf is to humans what a werewolf is to wolves. And that, just as there is wolf in her human side, there is human in her wolf side.

[journal post]: [Taking place after a day of hiding out in the City]
"Well, it doesn't take much to figure out that this isn't Ankh-Morpork. Although I can't say that I do know where this is. It doesn't look like anywhere I've ever been." It didn't smell like anything familiar, either, but that wasn't exactly starting introductions out on the right paw, stating that you've smelled about. "I was able to figure this Talk button out, at least."
She laughs a small, awkward, meeting-someone-for-the-first-time-at-a-big-party-and-not-quite-liking-how-they-dance-with-the-women-but-they'll-be-providing-your-paycheck-from-now-on laugh. "I do suppose that this is still the Century of the Anchovy?"
[third person / log sample]:
They were patrolling. Or proceeding, as would be more accurate. Well, Carrot was proceeding, anyway. She was padding along.
Captain Vimes would often talk about proceeding, and how important it was, but considering her condition that she was used to, it was less an issue of how to walk the walk, and more how to talk the talk. Which quite often wound up being a growl or a bark. Especially when she worked with Carrot.
They'd managed to work out a system of communication, albeit a rather shoddy one. Most of the others often mis-interpreted the signals, thinking that her bark meant 'Yes! That's the criminal what done it!'; when sometimes it meant just the opposite. The Watch had needed to apologize to many an innocent citizen, claiming they'd thought to expect 'one bark for yes, two for no'; before Captain Vimes had decided that she and Carrot should stick together from then on.
And it worked. Somehow, it worked. Carrot managed to understand not just the fact that it was a bark, but what the tone and pitch had to do with it. They made a great team, between the two of them. She'd smell the scene of the crime, they'd go out and wait in the Mended Drum, drink a little- milk for him, out of a bowl under the table for her- and then sooner or later the culprit would come by. She'd alert Carrot, he'd read them their rights, and after they struggled for a bit, Carrot would sock him one straight to the head.
It was fairly simple, that act. It just managed to infuriate her that Carrot seemed to be perfectly all right with one side of a romantic talk occasionally being literally growled at him. And that when walking by themselves, someone walking the other direction would quickly turn the direction he'd come and run for his life. It didn't bother Carrot at all; as though there were something completely normal about it!
Captain Vimes also often talked about the chase, and how important it was. What he didn't mention was how much he enjoyed it, she could tell by the look he got and the way he acted. She could, quite literally, smell how much he enjoyed it. She agreed with him there. The chase was always one of the better parts of patrolling. Her animal instinct completely took over when she bounded away after someone on all fours. Of course, everyone would expect her to enjoy the chase, it was like a live stick to retrieve, wasn't it? Carrot would catch up, or more likely, head the perpetrator off at the nearest short-cut and catch him there.
She stilled as a familiar scent wafted by. This belonged to the unlicensed robber from the blacksmith that they investigated the other day! She growled low, her hackles and fur stood on end. He was close, the scent was fresh. Carrot heard her and saw how she stood, and nodded once, allowing her to take the lead, and she saw him smile slightly at her before she ran after the scent.
He might have understood her, but she had a while to go before she started understanding him completely. But for now, she just concentrated on the chase.

*Not literally, of course. Otherwise 'killing with laughter' would have a completely different meaning.
Because let's face it. Half the reason you're excited about Discworld characters is so that you can watch for those awesome little footnotes that Pratchett puts in every book. I'm not Terry Pratchett, but being IC means that I must make these footnotes. And since I know many Discworld fans, I know that you guys want to see them. So, I'll be keeping a list here!
The first one was in the application. See above.
Interviewing Kate Beckett for a position on the police force. Running into Chris Skelton on the mistletoe curse day. Talking to Cameron Lynde about what weaponry might be best. Double Footnote! Sam Tyler calls the camping curse insane, asks who isn't affected. Double footnote!
