Sorry, specific prompt. Kanji, instead of joining the group, becomes your typical troubled teen. He fights, cuts class, and fights daily with his inner demons. After getting in trouble for the last time, Yasogami High puts him in a new experimental delinquent program. He has to spent at least one hour daily with a terminally ill patient at the hospital until the patient signs paper work affirming that the delinquent made them more comfortable in their final days. (or dies.) Bonus points for Kanji/Teddie, Kanji/Naoto. Thanks in advance!

((Gonna upload the first part of chapter 4 now, the second half in the near future.))
Mrs. Tatsumi climbed the staircase of her small, two-story shop-house, carrying a box of fabric that was damaged and thus, unable to be used by Tatsumi Textiles any longer. She paused at the top of the staircase, setting the box down to let her back rest for a moment. In that time, she noticed the open door to her son’s room, through which she could see the pastel walls of his room.
Mama, Papa, can we paint the room this really cute purple? Can we? Please?
Well, I don’t see why not! I think that will look great in your room. What do you think, dear?
Hm. Well, Katsuya, I think if our little Kanji likes it, it must be perfect. Will that make you happy, Kanji?”
Uh-huh!
Katsuya, let’s get it for him. I think it will be perfect.
Mm. Excuse me, Shiroku-san, how much for this can of paint? She smiled just a bit at the memory, and walked forward to close the door, box of fabrics forgotten

Because they can’t; because they’d want you to be happy, even if it’s hard, even if they’re not around. You can’t save someone from death, Kanji. But.” She put a hand under his chin, lifting his head up to meet her eyes. “You can make the last part of their life happy.” She got up, facing away from him. She pretended to pick up dirty clothes to hide as she rubbed her eyes, letting her words sink in. Kanji was contemplating what she’d said. That was a start

“….What’s it to you?” Kanji growled, bristling at the subtle levels of accusation in the detective’s voice, which didn’t sit well with him in the least. “Ain’t doin’ anything wrong, so what th’hell do ya want?” Dojima sighed, taking a drag of his cigarette as he ran a tense hand through his graying hair. He looked overworked
