Hah. That was one of Fred's problems also. I'm going to have to share this theory with him.

He also just wanted to know why Scotty was banished to a random planet, but I'm going with if Kirk's father was such a big influence on so many people's lives, I'm willing to believe his untimely end was enough to ripple affect many, many people on earth and elsewhere. Plus, all those other people who died that weren't meant to.

All those people, yep. And honestly, it's 11 years (accordig to Trek wiki. I thought it was 5) before Kirk takes over the enterprise. He could have been stuck there in Prime Universe too.
