Today I would like to talk about another sensitive topic (yes, even more sensitive than religion, to some), and that is the State of Israel.  It is still a very relevant topic today since the Middle-East is still the center of tons of controversy as well as media attention, but I won't go into that. I doubt that dropping religion from the equation would change the situation. The most contested areas are those with the most valuable land and natural resources, not the most religious significance. Religion provides the names for the opposing teams, led by selfish men who instill fanatical devotion in others only to enrich themselves.

The conflict will continue as long as there is more money, power, glory to be gained by the few prolonging conflict. If they came to a resonable compromise, the constant flow of money and attention from major powers into the region could contract. Or at least it would start to benefit the many instead of the few, which no modern political figure can tolerate.

It's not impossible to change the situation by making it more profitable to pursue peace, but it's unlikely because it would require politicians somewhere to act selflessly.
