Hey Amanda, This is Jennifer Finley. I think it is so awesome that you are out at Claremont! I know that you will do well, and you are exactly where you need to be. I completly understand about the rollercoaster of emotions which is seminary :) So, drop me a line sometime if you want to chat. My contact info. is on my facebook profile. I'm glad to hear that you survived the first week, and I hope your second week goes well.
Amanda, I love you, and I'm rooting for you! It's brave of you to move somewhere totally new, and it's expected that you'll need time to adjust. Don't be too hard on yourself for that. You are absolutely brilliant, and I have no doubt that you'll do great.
On a related note, I went to see Little Miss Sunshine last night (which I think you might really like), and there was this one part in the movie where they were discussing suffering and that it makes you who you are. It is, unfortunately, absolutely true. These things that stretch your boundaries and your mind, they can be so good for you! Either making you the person you're meant to be or strengthening you in the person you are. It's scary, but don't be afraid of it.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I guess I am usually to hard on myself . . . *everyone that knows me smiles and nods* I like that bit about suffering. I'm adding the movie to my need to see list. :)
I felt the same way my first week of school. I was overloaded with work, too, but not as much as you. Just know that it will get better. You're in a brand new environment, and you just need to get used to your new routine. It's hard to break out of your comfort zone, but worth it in the end. :D
*Hugs* Thanks!! Good luck with your last year to. I should be getting the dsl set up Tuesday. (even though I know its on campus . . . stupid holiday and stupid package room . . . ) So then I'll try to get on gaia some. My poor charity. *sniff*
Hey Amanda! I totally understand what you are going through because I went through it just two years ago. It is very difficult to live away from family and friends in a new place and take on grad school. It is still hard for us, I mean just yesterday our car broke down and instead of having my dad come fix it, we had to figure it out ourselves. But let me tell you from experience that it gets better. Our first few weeks in Ohio were very hard for us. We were homesick and I was overwhelmed with school. After awhile though you kind of get used to it and fall into a routine. Just be assured that you will get used to it, and when it is all over you will look back on it and be glad you did it. Here are some verses that helped me get through the hard times: Proverbs 16:3-4, Joshua 1:9, Colossians 3:23-24, and II Corrinthians 4:17.
Thanks for the verses. Good luck with the car. That's one of the reasons I left mine at home. And the fact that LA drivers are way to agressive for me.
We got the car figured out, it needed a new battery. So Chris and I replaced it by ourselves! Being on your own makes you learn a lot of new things, it's a wonderful (but difficult) growing experience.
Its okay to cry. You're going to do great. Remember to ask for help from other people. Graduate school is not something you get through all on your own. People will be happy to help you as much as you're always willing to help others and give of your own time. He has said, 'I will never leave you, nor forsake you,' so that we may boldly say, 'The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do to me. Hebrews 13:5-6
Love you Amanda. I'll try to give you a call this weekend. Michelle
