I was starting to respect Denethor again, even feel sorry for him in a way, until -

“Where is the ring?” he asked.

“It came off in the river,” the Vigil said.

Now did Denethor make off with it for some unscrupulous reason? Or is the Vigil hiding it for reasons of his own? Somehow as much as I want to continue to distrust Denethor I can't see him betraying his King and (more importantly) his Queen a second time, so that means... hmmn, you have me puzzling over what new twist you have up your sleeve, clever one!

I need to do some editing. I didn't make it clear that the lost ring is the Vigil's ring, not the ring of Barahir. Or maybe I misunderstood the comment. Too many rings! I'm confuzzled now.

Thanks for pointing that out for me. Big love to you, my slashy sistah.

I swear, my brain is on the blink tonight. One of the two gray cells isn't firing. At any rate, I meant it literally when I wrote that the Vigil's ring came off in the river, mirroring the even in the original story when the One Ring came off Isildur's finger in the river. I loved Tolkien's idea that the ring had a will of its own. I'm tired and as previously noted, a confuzzled bear of little brain. ;)

Hmm. It didn't seem like Denethor took the ring from the paragraph...that means Legolas must have taken it off...

Hmm...

Yay! Excellent continuation! This chapter was beautiful, and really well done in so many ways. How you made me like Denethor here, I don't know, but you managed it. I had almost forgotten that this whole situation was his fault. LOL

The other thing that I really loved about this chapter was the whole escape. I liked the fact that Legolas was able to break his chains and get them out. He seemed...supremely competent, and everything a special eleven warrior should be. You definitely have a gift with this. I would love to see you write an original slash fantasy epic. You do this so well. :)

Bravo! I look forward to more.

Lovely to hear from you. I wrote a note (or two) to Namarie about my clumsy handling of the ring situation. I just wanted to make the point that Legolas was with Aragorn because he loved him, not because of any spell (all my stories end that way ;) And to echo Prof. Tolkien's theory that rings of power act in their own self-interest. Thank you for reading and letting me know what you thought of it. Hugs!

Tolkien is not dead he incarnated into a women, Jesus Lady,
reading this, it's like turning a page in one of his books,
except for the love part but who knows, maybe it was in his head as well but he mite have gotten lynched if he would have written about two men in love. I love this, no other word will do.
Thank you Connie

You honor me too much. Thank you for the very kind words. I saw a short documentary about Tolkien and he had a very interesting set of friends called "The Inklings" that wrote and read their work to one another. Isn't that a cool thing? I admire the man so much. Words fascinate me and, of course you know, Tolkien was a linguist. The feat of creating real languages with real rules for the races in Lord of the Rings is amazing to me.

I haven't seen the work of the artists you mention. I'll try Googling them. I'd love to see some LotR artwork.

Hi, Bailey! What a pleasure to see an update of this story, and what a nice twist to see Denethor redeemed a little. Good for him! But even more I like the twist with the lost ring and sword. So, now Aragorn can be sure that Legolas stays for *him*. Great turn of events! The only problem they will have is how to provide for the continuation of the line of kings... except if this is going to include MPREG.

Otherwise, I loved this chapter as I loved the whole story. Will we perhaps see a resolution between Thranduil and his son, too?

On another note, sorry that I did not comment for so long. I have been occupied by Real Life issues that kept me busy and my online time limited. But finding this update today was a real treat!

Greetings to you and Cheerrs!

Hi Aislynn! So good to hear from you. Glad your RL has slowed down enough to let you come back and play. You've made some very good guesses about the coming chapters, but I don't want to give away any spoilers. A pleasure as always, glad you're back and posting!

Hugs to you!
