The library has given up sending paper mail when new books arrive on my Reserved shelf. I never got them to alert me by email. I suppose I will have to just check in once a week - not that I mind.

TBR Books:

Whitechapel Gods (SM Peters)
Deathless (Catherynne Valente)

Other books I've put on reserve. )

We don't really have the same taste in literature... since I have never read fantasy (unless Harry Potter counts lol). But some good nonfiction... I remember liking the Malcolm Gladwell books: The Tipping Point, Blink, and Outliers. (These mainly deal with social psychology, but are very interesting! Just read the back of any of them). Also, I found Diane Ackerman's A Natural History of the Senses pretty cool when I read it maybe 5 years ago. I also enjoyed her historical fiction novel, The Zookeeper's Wife, which takes place in Poland during WW2. As for fiction, the closest I've gotten to fantasy is magical realism, so I'd recommend Isabel Allende's House of the Spirits or Eva Luna.

Like I said, I've been wanting to expand the variety of my reading material (especially since I want to experiment more with my writing, which means reading new things to see what else is out there), so all of these suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

As soon as this current batch of books is read, I'll be adding your recs. :)

Tiff, I am going to love you. FOREVER. if you read Michael Ende's Momo. It's one of my childhood books and one of those I literally implore EVERYONE should read. It's an intimate, private little gem, by far not as flashy as The Neverending Story.

It was you who told me I should read it. It was some time ago, but I added it to my Amazon wishlist so I wouldn't forget it. I pull from that list for my library reservations when I need new reading material.

I think I avoided the books because of all the media attention it was getting, plus it's not a genre I like to read. But now that I'm intentionally trying to expand my reading material, I should try it now.

I don't know if you've read them, but may I suggest the VI Warchoski books by Sarah Paretski, The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, and the Burke novels by Andrew Vacchs?
