This is Not Your Childhood: Harley Quinn

Jun 21, 2011 21:01

I'm late to the party, but I'm seeing some agitation over "the new Harley Quinn" and I was like, wait, what? New Harley Quinn? I've seen the new Supergirl outfit and I know DC Comics is launching, relaunching or rebooting (and, of course, slashing) all sorts of titles, but it didn't even occur to me that they would touch other costumes besides ( Read more... )

It looks like a terrible mashup of Gorillaz and goth-inspired anime D:

I don't understand why she would bother with that tiny cowl/cape thing. D: D: D: Among everything else.

oh god I've heard a lot of people raging about this.

I personally loved her old original costume. She looked so cute in it. Now it doesn't even look like the same character

Have you seeeeeeen what the Teen Titans look like? D: D: D:

I liked the Bruce Timm's costume for her too. It may not be "modern," but this redesign isn't modern either. It kinda feels like someone is trying bold and underline that she's a villain, and you can tell she's a villain because she wears corsets!!!!

oh yeah lol poor Tim XD I don't everyone else's costumes were THAT bad but Tim's? lol dear god Tim what have they done to you?

Yeah totally. I also think they're just to make her more a sexual object than she already was, I mean she's barely wearing anything anymore.

I thought everybody on the Teen Titans cover looked horrible. I saw someone say that it looked like Ed Hardy designed Superboy, and that Wonder Girl traded in her golden lasso for one made of licorice vines. Now I can't unsee either comparison. :( Tim looked like he was trying to fly off and escape the WTF.

I never thought of her as a sexual person. There was a playfulness to her and maybe it got flirty, but I always thought that, in a line-up, DC Comics would always make Catwoman and Poison Ivy the most sexual-looking. Whatever sexuality she has/had, she didn't seem interested in flaunting it or using it. Of course, what DC Comics thinks their audiences want is another thing...

I can't tell if her corset is unlaced for the cover, or if it's usually gaping open like that. I don't know which would be worse, to be honest.

It's an American comic--it's just gaping open like that. I'd bet money on it. :/

IDK. :( I wish I knew why. I also wish I knew who designed this monstrosity and throw a hammer at them.
