The large expanse of sandy sheet where the sea meets the land is dotted with tall round tables clothed with silk and adorned with flowers. White ribbons embrace pink roses atop silver stands as they form a line towards a beautiful wooden platform with its back turned against the setting sun. The sea breeze blows and the salty ocean air mixes with the sweet scent of freshly-bloomed flowers, opened bottles of champagne, and the myriad of perfumes, colognes, and sweat from the cheerful crowd merry-making on the seashore. Barefooted little children play along the mild surf. Little boys with their pants folded up to their knees run after little girls, the hems of their dresses folded like droopy petals. Parents watch from afar - some too drunk to care, some occasionally spying the throngs of kids while chatting with the other visitors at the party.
Shim Changmin excuses himself from the private gathering and lets his gaze land on a small crowd of youngsters playing with a cast away crab on a deserted part of the shoal. A little girl of five leads the gang in torturing the poor crustacean and Changmin lets a smile break on his face freely as he observes his godchildren.
The kids run off when a gentle-faced elder boy not a day older than eleven reprimands them. The little girl then sticks out her tongue and runs towards the waiting arms of Kim Taeyeon. The woman gives off a guilty smile upon seeing Changmin's amused expression. He mouths a silent “it's okay”, watches as Kim Junsu approach his wife and console his grumpy daughter, and turns back his attention to the now leader-less mob of youths. He smiles upon seeing the said crowd move back towards the area of festivity; the eleven-year old leading them towards the table where Hwang MiYoung and the rest of what was once SoNyuhShiDae were seated. Jung Yunho pauses upon seeing the procession and smiles a proud smile only a father can give to his first-born. Changmin hears a shriek from the direction of the sea and a chuckle escapes his throat upon seeing Lee Donghae, water splashing against his tailored pants, chase his mini-me along the coastline. Jessica won't be amused, he laughs silently as the thought ran on his head.
The long shore glows golden in the late afternoon light and the cold whisper of the early dusk wind tickles his ear. He contents himself watching the children play; occasionally catching himself grinning when one of the kids tap a certain memory of their parents - his friends - on his mind. He is closely watching Kim Youngwoon's lively seven year old when his gaze lands on a tall lady, her face hidden by the camera she's holding, standing near a rocky part of the beach.
The woman follows the motion of the running children as she kept on snapping photographs. She then faces the rosy horizon, the camera never leaving her face. She stands straight for a long stretch of time, her arms clipped in an awkward way as she clicks on the shutter continuously. She puts down the camera for a brief second before bringing it back to her face. A ray of sunshine hits her face on that brief moment and Changmin catches how the golden beam glimmers oddly bright against her skin. He finds himself walking towards her direction.
That solitary being, seemingly enjoying her isolation from the lively gathering happening behind her back, fails to notice the young man approaching her. Her weary arms put down the heavy object and the sand beneath her feet goes wet even without the waves touching them. She once again attempts to hide her tears behind the lens, before everybody notices it, before it starts falling again, when a hand stops her from doing so. She freezes upon the contact, obviously caught in surprise.
“Sooyoung...”
It confuses her how her name sounded comforting coming from this strange mouth. A strange mouth with a familiar voice that she isn't very much acquainted with. She feels something soft against her skin and it took all her willpower to keep herself from breaking down. She takes in a big breath and lowers the camera from her face.
Her lonely eyes meet warm consoling ones and she swallows back the bitter taste of impending tears as she receives the white handkerchief he was holding out to her. She slings the camera carefully on her shoulders and sits down unsteadily on the sandy floor, not minding the fact that it might ruin her dress and that thousand grains of sand has already started seeping through the cracks of her shoes.
“What made you come here?”
Her voice quivers as the question leaves her throat.
“You're taking pictures without subjects.”
Changmin answers briefly. He heaves a sigh, looks out to the vast horizon in front of him before seating himself beside her.
“You still love him?”
It is more of a statement rather than a question and Sooyoung bites her tongue harder. She stares at the waves rolling towards the shore and lets the silence grows.
“I loved her too, you know? Heaven knows how much I did.”
His voice cracks a bit as he says the last words and the tears threatening to fall from her lids grows heavier. Her hands grip the handkerchief tighter but Changmin continues.
“But I have to move on. She's happy with him. Happier than she ever was.” His fingers draw circles against the sand as he rambles on. “I also know how much...” his voice grows softer “...how much he loves her.”
Something about the way he said it made the tears fall like silent rain against her cheeks. Her voice comes out as a croak even when she forces a smile on her lips. “You do deserve to be the best man in this wedding, Changmin-ssi.”
She sucks in her cheeks and heaves a heavy sigh before continuing. “I know I'm the one who gave up on him and it has been a long time already. A long, long time. I just never thought first loves could scar this much.”
She looks at him, her wet face gleaming in the afternoon light. “I love Yoong and seeing her look so beautiful and happy today is more than all the wishes I could ask for her. I just... don't understand why it suddenly hurt when Kyu... when Kyu thanked me.”
Changmin doesn't say anything. He shifts in his seat instead and faces the girl beside him.
“It means farewell.” He says softly. He then takes the handkerchief from her hands and dabs it gently on her tear-stricken cheeks.
Sooyoung catches the faint smell of dried tears on the cotton scarf and more tears leak out of her eyes. She doesn't ask the question but Changmin answers, as if reading her mind.
“I cried too. But I'm done.” A sincere smile makes its way to his lips as he sees the realization dawn on her. “Farewell means good parting and hopeful beginnings.”
She searches for a hint of pain on his eyes but finds none. Instead, something in them sparked of either courage, hope, faith, or maybe all three and she forgets all her inhibitions as she asks him a question.
“Do you mind if I cry it all now?”
He says nothing and shifts his position against the sand, moving closer to her, their hips touching each other as he blocks her from the view of anyone who might happen to look out at this part of the shore.
“No. I don't mind at all.” He smiles a warm smile and sits straight, offering his open shoulder for the girl. Sooyoung then folds her legs together, leans closer to him, and let her tears flow silently and freely.
The two watches in silence as the sun marries the sea in front of them. The sky bleeds, its blood turning the waves auburn as they race with one another ashore. The shore, where the sea trysts with the sand and the pebbles, where they sit and let the gentle lapping of waves croon and heal their hurting hearts.

Remordere and

This is supposed to be a separate one-shot but then the plot is rather similar with my idea of the third part of the three-shot so I decided to just tweak some things/characters and hit two birds with one stone xD /waiting for violent reactions
