Music, costume and props (WAS: Quick questions)

Feb 03, 2014 20:30

Hello Bardcampers.

This was originally about me being disorganised and struggling to work out what things I might need to do in regard to costume, props etc. It is now a general discussion about music, props and costumes for Bardcamp 2014. Knock yourselves out!

I could do guitar but might not have time and energy to organise a tune. As Kerry is up for this, perhaps we could leave it that she can let me know if she wants any chords on it and I will oblige :)

Using this as a space-to-talk-about-props-generally rather than a Lucy-needs-to-do-this, but it would be sort of cool to have a laurel wreath for Coriolanus? I could try to make one out of wire and fake leaves (nb this will probably not actually happen if it is only left up to me, although WHO KNOWS!) but if anyone has a laurel wreath knocking around!

...I have ivy in the back garden. Lots and lots and lots of ivy. And a wire ring that's left over from the Christmas wreath that I've been hanging on to because it'll be useful for something.

'Make ivy wreath' is now on the to-do list for the Friday.

And Geoff was sceptical that we'd ever find a use for the ring! Within two months it has proved its worth!

Do you have a false moustache I can borrow?

Bloody good question. In theory yes, in actually-where-is-it-anyway?, no. BUT I do have fake fur, wool fluff and eyelash glue, so you can have a BESPOKE moustache. In fake fur, I have grey, white, black and orangey-brown. In wool fluff I have many ludicrous colours (pink moustache?) but also creamy white, black and grey. And bright yellow. What colour and style of moustache would you like?

It would be better if it was obviously a fake moustache, and also easily removable/attachable (it's for Major Major in Catch 22)

Do you need to be able to attach it onstage? It can be obviously fake - I can felt together something ludicrous in shape or colour or something. Attachment, given I don't have any commercially-made moustaches with sticky bits on, has to be eyelash glue, I don't think I have any other options there.

Is fake blood an easy thing? That and a triangular bandage would be great for Coriolanus :)

Fake blood is the kind of thing one should purchase from a reputable supplier. You could get it online from Fun 'n' Frolic which is my local costume shop, or there are loads of other places. I don't have any at the moment unfortunately. I will try to remember to add 'big piece of white fabric' to my packing for you to use as a bandage.

There are (unsurprisingly) many phalluses in Acharnians. Do people still have and are willing to bring the ones used in previous years?

There is a point in which Megarian's two daughters need to climb into a sack. I think the easiest thing to do for that will be to use a double duvet cover from one of the beds.

There are a number of other props specified as well (e.g. some garlic, a coal basket, a shield, a feather....) but I think it might be quite fun, and in keeping with the random casting, to just have a pile of props somewhere easily accessible from which people can select more-or-less appropriate items as the need arises. Thoughts?
