And the answer is...

Pre-Diabetes. Hemoglobin A1C is 5.9% .2% away from the Diabetes threshold.

So, no meds. Eat right and exercise, lose 20lbs and things should be better.

Piece of cake. Oh wait - no cake.

Easy as pie - No, no pie either.

Simple as un-buttered popcorn. Yum.

*hugs* MUCH better to know then, as this enables you to *do* something about it and get it back into hand and healthy levels before it becomes a real problem.

No problem. If I can do it, you can do it. Your my bigger brother after all.

And contrary to popular belife amongst the sugar eating crowd, you dont have to convert to the total sugar free cooking scheme. There are lots of foods out there that are naturaly low in sugar. You just gotta get used to enjoying their natural un-sugared flavour

Yup, do your research and listen to the folks who're there before you, and I'm sure you'll be fine. The initial dietary switch is a little bit of a shock, but you'll be surprised at how your tastes change in time. Over the years that I've been slowly easing out the excess sugar, salt, and starches from my diet, I've discovered that some of the food I used to love now tastes absolutely dreadful to me.

Yes indeed. I use to hate having to drink diet soft drinks but now I can't stand the taste of regular soft drinks. And yes, the shock of having to change your diet might be a little depressing at first but after a while you'll get in the groove and think nothing of it!

And it's ok to eat the things you like, the key to losing weight and lowering your blood sugar levels is moderation. At least that is what works for me. I hated having to diet and for years struggled with losing weight and being happy with what I was having to eat. One day I just decided to stop all the low carb, low sugar diets and just lowered the portion sizes of the usual foods I liked to eat, lucky for me I've always liked my vegies and fruits anyway! It's kept me from going crazy, mostly! Don't get me wrong though. You still have to be smart about what you eat, but you can do it without making yourself crazy from missing the foods you like to eat.

Sorry to hear this bud. I started like this around 15-16 years ago and was diagnosed as hypoglycemic, then about 10 years ago I was full on type 2 diabetic. I only needed oral medication at first but about 3 years ago I started a medication known as BYETTA, it's an injection like insulin but only for type 2 diabetics.

I've lost close to 100lbs since starting the BYETTA but about a year after starting the BYETTA I had to start taking insulin too, it happens even when you do all the right things. But take care of yourself bud, and you may live the rest of your life only needing to diet and exercise!
