So spring break is less than a month away, and this year I (along with some amigos) have decided to call off a big trip. Last year's Florida trip was a blast, but I don't know if I'm up for something like that again, + it was expensive. Frankly, I'm exhausted, and driving somewhere for >10 just doesn't sound like fun - no matter the destination ( Read more... )

spelunking - the act of exploring a cave.

I went on that tour this summer - it was amazing. you have to reserve way in advance for it though, and the tour only runs for a few months a year. They don't give you the helmet anymore - instead you get a pretty cool bandana.

P.S. Mammoth Cave, Lost River Cave, and KY Down Under are all within about 30 minutes of my home.

I definitely recommend Mammoth Cave. I've been trying to go back, but everytime I make plans, they fall through.

Have you ever been to Red River Gorge/Natural Bridge? If you haven't, there's an idea. It's gorgeous, and there are tons of hiking trails (if you like that), and it's not like, boring trails. When you get to the end, you're out on a big ledge; it's beautiful. John and I went yesterday, but we go about once a month anyways.

Good luck with all the ideas!

Yeah, I wanted to go to the trail-clearing thing that the SVC hosted yesterday at Red River Gorge, but I'm working this weekend :(
Places around Harlan are beautiful too (Kingdom Come, Black Foresst), but I want to see new things.
Speaking of, did you know that Ben Smith is on the travel brochure for Harlan? next time you go to a truck stop nearby, check it out.

I've passed through Alabama on the way to Louisianna, but I didn't count it because it's not like we acknowledged that fact that we were in that state.
