Nobody has talked about it on here yet! I think this is a company wide rollout, at least for USA Starbucks. What do you guys think about it? Have any funny stories about trying to sell it ( Read more... )

I haven't had any cool stories, but I've been pleasantly surprised at how many people have been willing to try it. Save for the few that are like "Ugh, no, that's sure to be too weak for me oh by the way can I has extra curmul, extra suger, extra cream, and whipped cream plzkthnx." Because, I mean, lighter doesn't really mean weaker. It just means charredroasted less.

And I've probably done more presses of Willow at home than any coffee combined for the last 6 months. So delicious.

hahahahaa yeah seriously. I love it when people bitch about how gross our coffee is/ how expensive it is and then throw $5 at a specialized drink. Seriously?

I have a bizarre story from today. A woman ordered a grande pour-over of Willow. We were slammed busy all day because we're essentially the only place that still had power amid the giant outages. I said "No problem!" and trotted over to the drawer where we keep our opened sampled coffees before they're expired. I'd just opened a pound of Willow earlier this week for myself and the other partners t try ( ... )

That IS really weird! One of my coworkers and I sampled decaf willow yesterday though, and he felt like it tasted wrong, so maybe it reacts stronger to things on your tastebuds than other coffees?

I just brewed a batch of toddy using veranda and its flavor is mellow and nutty, but it packs a punch typical of that brewing method.
Customer reactions in my area are mixed, and I haven't had much luck selling even after sampling. A lot of customers are happy to take home a sample bag to brew at home, and I've asked them to come back and tell me what they think. I guess we'll see.

Whenever I open up the cube of Veranda I just get a solid whiff of peanut butter.

And that is interesting! So far I haven't sold too much of it whole bean, but brewing through it it sells a lot!

Man, dude, I know coffee drinkers who adore lighter coffees more than our typical darks, so it's all about taste man. I prefer to drink Komodo but sometimes I really want a light coffee. /shrug

For me Willow is the new Sidamo. I could only suffer through Sidamo with lemon loaf and vice vs. Now I like lemon loaf but it's still the only way to make Willow palatable for me.

To give you perspective though I walked in and poured myself a cup of coffee ignoring the sign and assuming it was Italian and after adding cream thought, man. Italian is fucking AWESOME today.

It was French. So, uh, I like my coffee dark. With that said though, we've been selling a lot of blonde and have had a lot of people not jokingly ask for it. I could take it or leave it frankly.

I totally agree with this. Except Ethiopian Sidamo was always my favorite coffee :-P

I'm usually the odd man out when it comes to African coffees. I'm not a big fan of high acidity or citrus notes.
