I remember being told that watches and bracelets were against dress code when I was hired, but nobody seems to follow that one, so it was either made up by my manager or just nobody follows it.
As for the sweatband, if they were a health violation, why would starbucks have sent them out?? I'd get a copy of the actual dress code and go through it with a fine toothed comb.
As for tattoo cover up I've seen people wear thinner button up shirts that were long sleeved. I've also seen that exact sweatband used, along with band aids.
There's no way a watch could be excessive. Seriously, a barista does NOT have the time to walk to the register every time they need to check the time. Your DM needs to get off her high horse or get laid or something.
oops i deleted the other half of my comment!! :x they are glittery appliques that i picked up at a fabric store. i glue them on with eyelash glue, and i have about a dozen of them in different colors for maximum outfit coordination! ;)
I use the Frappuccino wristband for the little heart tattoo on my wrist, another partner wears two on his upper forearm to cover his. Our DM is a power-tripper hardcore, but he has no problems with it.
I do know (or have been told), however that if you use a band-aid to cover a tattoo "too close to your hand", it's a sanitation issue for hand-washing stuff and then you have to wear pastry gloves... But I don't see how a DM can begrudge someone a cuff or a watch or something to cover it up. We were hired in spite of our tattoos, we agreed to cover them up... you've gotta let us cover them up.
Unless this is some big vendetta against inked baristas.
Thanks a ton guys. This whole dress code thing is spiralling out of control. Another coworker is actually quitting over this.....because she got reprimanded that her pants were out of dress code Bc they were slightly faded....I know they are trying to cross all the Ts and dot the Is because the huge sbux conference is in Houston this year, but it has crossed the line into pure ridiculousness that makes me want to ask for a spending stipend for new uniforms...
