Pain

Pain is an interesting thing ( interesting in that OMFG sort of way) . Some people have a high tolerence and others cringe at the slightest hint of discomfort. I have always thought of mySelf as one who could endure pain in ammounts that many others would be unable to do. This was never a " better then thou" sort of feeling, just a realization from ( Read more... )

Sorry you're going through such tough times! Stuff I've read lately about you has sounded more upbeat.

What kind of alternative treatments have you tried or considered? I'm thinking things like acupressure/acupuncture, or, massage that is more then just rubbing skin and muscles, or, whatever all else, possibly including more holistic meds or whatever that might be able to supplement the more traditional stuff you're doing. Do you know madisonmassage? He may well have some thoughts for you.

thanks for the note. I am researching now for someone who is qualified to do lymphatic massage as the lymphodema is causing much of this pain. GVH (graft vs. host disease) is the other main problem and that is just my body fighting the transplanted Bone Marrow for dominance. Because of this I am on immune system suppresents . I have to be very careful of any alternative medicines and or herbal therapies as my immune system is still that of a 8 yr old and its being supressed at that. I have to get vacinated for all childhood diseases all over as well so I must be careful there as well. To put it all very simply I must trust and go along with my Transplant team concerning all therapies due to complications that alternative approaches may cause. Most of the time things are well, and have been progressing very smoothly , but nothing is a guarentee and there are times when something may kick up and begin to cause troubles as they are now. Much of the complication is also caused by side effects of the meds I am taking to keep me healthy. so ( ... )

Is there anything you can take that will induce any amount of amnesia? I'm thinking specifically of the (I really think it's probably a myth) post-partum thing - hormones or whatever ( ... )

I'm sorry to know that you are experiencing such pain. I had no idea that BMT would have such a painful outcome. wayfinder38 has been through oxycodone, morphine and is now on Fentanyl patches with oxycodone for breakthrough pain.. This seems to be the accepted level of care and according to everything I could learn they all say when it comes to this level of pain DO NOT WORRY about addiction. You need the relief narcotics can bring. Wayfinder 38 was referred to a pain clinic. They will be doing a nerve block to give him some relief. He went off the morphine because he couldn't stand the side effects (unrelenting constipation) but then he could do nothing but focus on the pain. The Fentanyl is the least constipating of the opioids. Now he is able to participate a little in some social activities ( ... )
