The Left Banke

... mildly amusing baroque-pop moment. Jens Lekman played here in Auckland the last two nights, and I managed to blag my way into doing a DJ set both nights. For anyone familiar with his work, there's a sample of The Left Banke's "I've Got Something On My Mind" in his song "Maple Leaves". I had to do a panic move in the summer of '04, and stuff have to be dumped in an indisceiminate purge. One of the albums I had to dump was the only album containing receipes/baking,
etc.

well Pitchfork Media hasn't done an article on baroque pop, so of course they wouldn't be interested. Damn smarmy indie kids, indeed.

Odd; a while ago at a Starbucks I heard the original artist (can't recall his name) release of 'Walk Away Renee', before The Left Banke covered it. Don't hear that too often, even on the Oldies stations.

I thought the Left Banke sample was in "Black Cab," not "Maple Leaves."

I noticed that the beginning of "Black Cab" and "I've Got Something on my Mind" are the same too, but no one ever seemed to care when I showed them. Haha.
