I just wanted to say, I never thought of Charlie/Janine before reading the gift you got (and apparently neither had the person who wrote it for you), but now I want more. o_o; Do they even interact in the books? Are they the same age? Neither piscaria nor I could really remember...

They don't really interact much in the series beyond once or twice in passing. But I say hogwash! Charlie is one year older than Janine, they grew up next door to each other until he was 17 and she was 16. I think it's an adorable idea.

Someone first joked ages ago on babysittersclub that the reason Charlie was so willing to drive the babysitters everywhere was as a favor to Janine. Someone else joked in response that he spends the half hour of each BSC meeting getting busy with her, which is why he only takes 50 cents a week as payment for driving them. From there, the idea took off, although I think I was the first one to actually write it as fic instead of it just being a fandom in-joke. Here is a link to my first one. I have one other completed one and one that's been in-progress forever, and a ship manifesto I've been working on forever, too. I know I've seen at least a couple floating around besides piscaria's. But sadly, despite the popularity of the joke in the fandom, there's not a lot of fic about the two of them.

Is she three years older than Claudia then?

Oh, gosh, I think it's been too long since I read any BSC, I'd sort of forgotten about the whole rides/Junk Bunket/cross-town thing. Also, God, I'd forgotten they paid him 50 cents. 50 cents????? I guess it must be because the books started so long ago.................that wouldn't even pay for gas now.
