He always managed to look hastily put together, but he had the decency not to get his shirt wrinkled when he was sleeping at his desk.

He liked that he had achieved most of what he had on his own, and while some didn’t see what he did with his life as an achievement, Riley still felt there was enough to be proud.

Spending his days stuck in the basement of the courthouse didn’t exactly lend time to him getting out and about in the sun, but it certainly didn’t make him a vampire in the way his brother was implying: he didn’t sparkle.

He did his best to play by the rules and defend his clients to the best of his ability, but there were times where he really just wanted to throw the guy to the wolves and see what would happen.

Most of his issues with his parents was water under the bridge, but that still didn’t make it any easier for him to go home for family holidays.

His line of work was his choice, and while it wasn’t a money maker that had him living in style, he was happy where he was.

I work. Original, I know, but-what else am I supposed to do? My caseload is almost blocking the door to my office, and there are things I need to have done. Occasionally, if things happen to align themselves properly, I’ll find someone to go see a show with or grab a cup of coffee with, but really-most of the time it’s just me and my work. Lying comes rather easily to me. I think it’s a side effect of my being a lawyer-a public defender no less. The clients I usually get are the ones who can’t afford to employ someone from a powerful firm, and-I hate to say it-are usually guilty.
